IDMC’s research team produces actionable data, policy relevant analyses and tools to support planning and decision making and help prevent, prepare for and respond to internal displacement linked with conflict, violence, disasters and other causes. Key research themes include climate change, peacebuilding, return and durable solutions, urban displacement and the socioeconomic impacts of displacement on different groups of affected people including women, men, LGBTIQ communities, children, youth and people with disabilities.

IDMC is now looking for a Research Associate with demonstrated research, analysis and writing skills as well as solid experience using quantitative data and statistical tools to join their research team.

What you will do:

Working closely with the Research Manager you will support research on the risks, drivers and impacts of internal displacement, identify relevant literature and data sources and analyse qualitative and quantitative data to produce actionable information and policy.

The main roles and responsibilities for this position are:

  1. Support research on the risks, drivers and impacts of internal displacement linked with conflict, violence, sudden or slow onset disasters;
  2. Identify relevant literature and data sources to inform IDMC’s research on internal displacement;
  3. Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to produce actionable information and policy relevant analyses to help prevent, prepare for and respond to internal displacement in various contexts.
  4. Disseminate research findings and key messages through high quality publications and presentations at public events and tailored briefings to key stakeholders;
  5. Support the implementation of specific research projects, including administrative and financial procedures and drafting inputs for grant proposals and donor reports;
  6. Contribute to the overall work of the research team through team meetings, proposals for new research projects, feedback and support to other team members and contribution to joint projects with the rest of the research team and with other teams at IDMC.

What you will bring:

IDMC is looking for a Research Associate with a solid understanding of the risks, drivers and impacts of internal displacement in different contexts and proven experience collecting, analysing and presenting information on internal displacement. The successful candidate will possess a strong ability to question, understand and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research on internal displacement.

In addition, you will have:

  • Master’s degree or above in international relations, development, political science, social science, economy, migration or a related field;
  • Perfect command of the English language, both written and oral; knowledge of another language a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest for development or humanitarian work.
  • Strong initiative and collaborative working style.
  • Experience engaging with technical partners.
  • Experience working in countries affected by internal displacement a plus.
