Human Rights Interim Programme Director
The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is hiring an Programme Interim Director for our Human Rights Programme.
Introduction
This job opening is for a temporary replacement, from beginning of September 2016 to end of December 2016 with possibility of extension.
During this temporary contract the Human Rights (HR) Programme Interim Director will be replacing the HR Programme Director under the supervision of the Director of Global Programmes, the Secretary General and the International Office Manager.
The Human Rights programme works on the international, regional and local levels to advocate for long lasting peace across the world, especially those in zones of conflict and militarised countries, through the realisation of all human rights.
As part of WILPF, the Human Rights programme promotes a progressive gender perspective in preventing conflict and creating peace by bridging global and local efforts to implement a holistic and transformative human rights approach.
The Human Rights programme monitors the UN human rights bodies to ensure their integration of disarmament, social justice and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda from a gender perspective in order to duly address the human rights of women on the ground.
The Human Rights programme builds a bridge between our on-the-ground National Sections and the human rights bodies to bring valuable information from the local level to the global level. More importantly, it builds a bridge back to them from human rights bodies to make sure that the final stakeholders feel involved and that the recommendations issued by these bodies are implemented at the national and local levels.

Job description
The interim director is responsible for coordinating and running WILPF’s advocacy at the Human Rights bodies in Geneva.
The tasks will include:
- Design WILPF’s political strategy for its work towards human rights bodies
- Lead WILPF’s advocacy during the sessions of the HR bodies and in particular during the Human Rights Council
- Lead WILPF’s advocacy at other procedures connected to the Human Rights Council such as the IGWG on Transnational Corporations and other Business Enterprises with regards to Human Rights
- Coordinate WILPF’s advocacy at the HR bodies in Geneva
- Coordinate and assist WILPF’s sections participation to HR bodies
- Run capacity-building activities and assistance with WILPF sections in relation with HR (including at least one webinar per year)
- Ensure partnership relations with other NGOs
- Managing the HR programme budget
- Ensuring the continuation of the HR programme funding through the
- seek of funding
- drafting or updating proposals
- Reporting to funders on previous activities
Requirements
- Masters degree in Human Rights Law, international relations, political science, gender studies or related field
- At least 4 years of experience in the field of law, of which some in the field of human rights including experience in NGO advocacy with UN Human Rights bodies
- Proficiency in English and French, knowledge of Spanish or other languages will be an asset
- Knowledge in the areas of work of WILPF HR Programme: extraterritorial responsibility, Corporate Accountability, pacifism and/or arms proliferation and disarmament.
Conditions
- Duration: One-year contract with a 3-month probation period
- Terms: Full time position (flexible)
- Based in: Geneva, Switzerland
- Salary: 60’000 CHF brut per year
- Start date: 1st of September 2016
